Are You Serious? by Dan Bimrose

Desperate to not think, not write and not hear about the Presidential Race I scoured the news for stories that would amuse, or force me to shake my head in wonder instead of disgust.

I found three such gems.

A car thief in Salinas California was recently bested by yet another criminal. While driving a Chevy Silverado he had just stolen a man jumped in with a gun and carjacked the vehicle. When the truck ran out of gas the gunman forced the car thief out and ordered him to push the vehicle. He managed to escape and called police.

Now, I have never stolen a vehicle before so I do not know exactly what I would do in similar circumstances but I hesitate to think that I would call the police to say that a car that I had stolen had been stolen from me. This California man seems to be the victim of the old adage, "turnabout is fair play". Turn your attention now to Cincinnati. Not exactly my home town but I can get there in twenty minutes. A man was recently indicted on 19 counts including kidnapping and gross sexual imposition.

It appears he had placed ads in alternative newspapers and on-line in an effort to conduct a "national marketing survey". A number of parents responded and agreed to leave the man alone with their children while he conducted research on underwear. Apparently he needed to measure their underwear and used this excuse to touch them sexually. This went on for five months.

I would personally like to indict the parents of these youths on one count of gross stupidity and one count of child neglect.

Finally I have a shocker for you. The Center for Science in the Public Interest has recently discovered that the children's menus at national restaurant chains has too many calories. Their survey included Taco Bell, KFC, and Sonic among other restaurants.

Did we really need a study to discover this? I would have felt that common sense would have been enough.

Amazing enough the report revealed that the International House of Pancakes is one of the restaurants that refuse to provide nutritional information for their menus.

Go figure.
